There is only one way that Joe DiMaggio would have signed this nude photo of Marilyn Monroe—through deceit. Apparently, that is exactly how the deed was done. Presented is 6-1/2" x 8-1/8" cut magazine photo of Marilyn Monroe's famous nude pose. Presenting at the EX level, the image bears the black ballpoint signature "Joe DiMaggio" ("10") atop Monroe's right thigh. DiMaggio had a well-known reputation of refusing to validate any Marilyn-related memorabilia with his autograph. Somehow, perhaps at one of his many card show appearances, this one made it through the screening process. Accompanying the signed image is the method that was undoubtedly used—a "signing board" that contained a montage of DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle images with a space cut into the board. The nude photo was expertly concealed beneath the square, perhaps with a montage of other material, and the original owner begged and pleaded with Joltin' Joe to sign only in the space indicated. The set-up is amateurish at best, but it worked to bring about this rare and unbelievably visual creation. The photo has been mounted to a slightly larger backing board for added support. A true DiMaggio rarity! Accompanied by an Auction House Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA and a full Letter of Authenticity from James Spence Authentication (JSA).
