"MACLEN (MUSIC) LTD". The check, which measures 8" x 3 1/2", is dated May 11,1971, is made out to "3M Company" in the amount of £18,234. John has signed this check beautifully, as nicely as he could have signed on the day, in black felt tip marker in the appropriate space. Additionally, this check has been signed by Apple manager Neil Aspinall, who has used a blue ballpoint pen to sign. The purpose of this check was to pay for a 16-track tape recorder that he used to record the Imagine album at his home studio, named "Ascot Sound Studios", which was located at Tittenhurst Park - with recording starting there on May 24,1971 -very shortly after this check was signed by John. Additional writing at the top in red ballpoint reads "confirmation of mandate", which would have been needed for the approval of a check of this amount and purpose, hence the addition of Aspinall's signature. This is an extremely historic check, which is directly related to the production of John's landmark "Imagine" album. John Lennon and Beatles collectors--take notice!
Accompanied by a bevvy of provenance, including Letters of Authenticity from Beatles autograph experts Frank Caiazzo and Perry Cox, as well as a full Letter of Authenticity from Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
Presented here is a 1971 MacLen Music business bank check that has been boldly signed my John Lennon in black ink. MacLen was Lennon & McCartney's publishing company used to manage the rights and royalties to their legendary Beatles ballads. The check has scattered puncture holes to the left side, not impacting the signature. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from Beckett Authentication Services.
