In 2009, the Hall of Fame guard Kobe Bryant led the Los Angeles Lakers to a thrilling five-game victory over the Orlando Magic in the 2009 NBA Finals. Bryant, now a four-time NBA champion, won the Finals MVP trophy after scoring 32.4 points per game, with 5.6 rebounds and a generous 7.4 assists per game. Bryant and big man Pau Gasol controlled the series, anchoring the starting lineup as sixth man Lamar Odom came off the bench to lead the second unit with 13.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Bryant and the Lakers would repeat in 2009-10, with Bryant claiming his second Finals MVP trophy and fifth overall title. The former Lower Merion High School star was inducted posthumously into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2020.
Offered in this lot is the yellow Lakers home jersey prepared for Bryant’s use in Game 6 of the 2009 NBA Finals, should the Lakers have needed an extra game to put away Orlando. The sides of the jersey are purple and white, with an NBA Finals patch sewn on the right chest and an NBA logo patch sewn on the left. “LAKERS” is applied to the front in purple and white tackle twill, while Bryant’s now-retired number “24” is sewn on the chest and back in white and purple tackle twill. “BRYANT” is sewn across the back shoulders in purple and white tackle twill. An Adidas tag with “ClimaLite”, size “54”, “2008-2009”, and “Length +4” flags are sewn on the front left tail. Bryant has signed the “2” digit on the front of the jersey in black fiber-tip marker. The jersey comes with a LOA from Sports Investors Authentication for the game issue and a Letter of Authenticity from for the autograph from James Spence Authentication (JSA).
