An extremely rare fully autographed Led Zeppelin 1980 concert ticket, 2.75” x 3.5,” that has been signed by the entire group in blue ballpoint pen. In fine condition. The ticket is for Led Zeppelin’s performance that took place at Forest Vorst Internationaal, Brussels, Belgium 20th June 1980, this was the third date of the group’s final tour and it had been rescheduled from 5th June 1980.
Autographs from this period are extremely scarce, and this piece comes with an extremely detailed letter of provenance that reads ‘I was backpacking round Europe and knew Zep were touring but thought everywhere would be sold out. I made my way to Brussels and eventually found the box office…I attended the concert and thoroughly enjoyed a blistering evening. I was totally elated and was making my way out when I spotted a guest pass on a stairwell. Not believing my luck I picked it up and made my way backstage. My joy was short lived as the band had left.
I started to leave but asked a roadie where they were staying. After a bit of banter he told me the Sheraton Hotel. Arriving at the hotel I made my way to the bar. I ordered a drink and spotted my pass and charged my drink to Led Zeppelin. Looking round I found I was 5 yards away from Robert Plant’s table. I made my way over and went straight to him and asked him about his favourite subject……… Wolverhampton Wanderers! After about 10 minutes of football talk, I shook his hand and asked him to sign my ticket which he duly did.
I made my way to John Paul Jones who was sipping wine. After a short chat he also signed my ticket. I moved on to John Bonham. He was drinking a very large beer (a man after my own heart). We started talking and on hearing my Sunderland accent he asked me if this was the only gig I was attending. When I told him it was, he immediately called to Harvey Goldsmith and demanded that he got me tickets for the following night at the Ahoy in Rotterdam. He shook my hand and signed my ticket. One member to go but no sign on Jimmy Page. I was about to give up and go when in he came, flanked by 2 immense “bodyguards”. I bravely made my way over but was not allowed to talk to him. After a little insistence and waving my ticket Jimmy finally told his security guys to let me through. We spoke briefly and he completed my ticket of signatures.”
Complete Zeppelin sets are scarce to begin with, but this unique ticket format and engaging signing story heighten this piece to an entirely other echelon of collectability. Accompanied by a Tracks COA.
