Gibeon iron meteorite, weighing 931.2 grams and measuring approximately 111 mm x 60 mm x 42 mm. The Gibeon meteorite was first recorded in 1836 and was likely part of a massive and ancient fall. Gibeon is from the Namib Desert in Western Namibia. No impact crater has ever been found, but the fall site has produced specimens that have spanned a large area.

Gibeon is classified has a medium octahedrite and displays a complex and beautiful Widmanstätten pattern when cut and etched in the lab. Most Gibeons are angular in appearance, likely the result of in-flight explosions, terrestrial weathering, or both. Specimens of this marvelous meteorite also display thumbprints (regmaglypts) on their surface, indications of ablation during its flight through Earth’s atmosphere.

Accompanied by an Aerolite Meteorites COA. Aerolite, one of the world’s most well-respected meteorite companies, was founded by Geoff Notkin, who famously starred in the TV show “Meteorite Men.”
