Stunning Lunar Meteorite NWA 13964, weighing 55.1 grams and measuring approximately 129 mm x 96 mm x 2 mm. While it is illegal to own lunar material collected by the Apollo astronauts, lunar meteorites are space rocks which have been ejected from the Moon’s surface and miraculously landed on Earth. NWA 13964 is a new find, purchased from a dealer in Algeria. Two pieces, weighing 4630 grams and 1900 grams, were found to be composed of angular casts in a gray matrix.

This lunar meteorite’s geochemistry includes a mineral called anorthite; in 1971, astronauts James Irwin and David Scott (Apollo 15) collected what is now known as the Genesis Rock (sample 15415) from Spur crater. Analysis concluded that the rock is make up of anorthosite, which is composed mostly of anorthite.

This material is what the lunar highlands, the light colored material on the Moon’s surface, is mostly made of. These highlands are older than the darker plains on the Moon, and hence display more craters. The lunar highlands are also the site where many volcanic lava tube skylights have been found. An incredibly rare and desirable offering.

Accompanied by an Aerolite Meteorites COA. Aerolite, one of the world’s most well-respected meteorite companies, was founded by Geoff Notkin, who famously starred in the TV show “Meteorite Men.”
