Wood swatch originating from the Germantown White House in Germantown, Pennsylvania where George Washington resided during his presidency. 1" x .1". Encapsulated by CAG in a slab measuring 2.25” 3.25.”

Unlike today's presidents who reside in the glorious White House at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, D.C, George Washington spent the entirety of his presidency in New York and Pennsylvania. From 1789 to 1790, Washington lived in New York, and in later 1790 until 1797, he lived in the President's House in Philadelphia, located on the corner of Market Street and 6th Street, just a block away from Independence Hall. However, on two separate occasions, Washington resided at the Germantown White House, also known as the Deshler-Morris House.

In 1793, Washington held four separate cabinet meetings at the house in order to escape the deadly Yellow Fever outbreak in Philadelphia, which included debates on the country's "Neutrality Proclamation" in relation to the war between France and Britain. The following year the house would become a welcome retreat for the President, Martha, and their step-grandchildren. Today, the house has been protected by the National Park Service and restored to its 18th-century appearance.
