ew Hampshire schoolteacher (1948–1986) who was the first teacher in space; she perished, along with all six other crew members, during the Challenger disaster on January 28, 1986. Offered is a one page typed letter signed "Christa McAuliffe," NASA Teacher in Space Project letterhead, 8.5" x 11", January 15, 1986. Penned a mere 13 days before the Challenger launch and fatal disaster, McAuliffe responds to a collector's autograph request. In addition to signing her name on blue ink at the conclusion, McAuliffe has added a postscript which reads in full: "Thanks for writing + I'm hoping that many people are as excited as you!." Well preserved and in overall fine condition.
