Here is an impossibly rare 1966 Polydor Records first UK pressing of ‘Otis Blue / Otis Redding Sings Soul’, signed beautifully on the back cover in blue ballpoint, "Respect, Otis Redding." Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Recordmecca's Jeff Gold, who states that the album cover was signed for a UK disc jockey during the legendary 1967 Stax/Volt Revue tour of Europe. In 1967, Stax put together the first European tour of its artists. Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, and Eddie Floyd were among those on the road, visiting countries and cities they had never seen before. While Memphis remained a hotbed of institutional racism, Stax’s artists were treated like heroes. Many historians attribute the tour as the moment that American soul finally broke through to international audiences. Tragically, Redding would die in a plane crash later that year, at the age of 26, a month before his iconic '(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay' was released. As such, albums signed by Redding are exceedingly scarce, with very few surfacing to date.
‘Otis Blue’ is commonly viewed as the greatest studio-recorded soul album of all-time, and the crowning achievement in the brief life of Redding, one of the greatest singers in the history of American popular music. Otis Redding signed albums are remarkably rare. Per Jeff Gold of Recordmecca, “this is one of only three signed Otis Redding albums we’ve seen.” To date, this is the only signed copy of this landmark album known to exist. A supremely rare and desirable Otis Redding piece, for the most discerning of collectors. The cover and original vinyl are in excellent condition.
