Coached by legendary Kentucky Wildcats Adolph Rupp, this 1947-48 UK team would win it's first NCAA Championship in UK history, rightfully earn the nickname "The Fabulous Five". Despite only being a college team, this starting "Fab 5" was so dominant they represented the United States in the 1948 Olympics, defeating all of its competition (8-0) to win the Gold Medal! With most of the players returning for the following NCAA season, UK repeated by winning the 1948-49 NCAA Championship as well. Eight members of the 1947-48 "Fab 5" first title-winning squad were eventually selected in the NBA Draft.
This 1948 commemorative booklet is signed on the cover by all 5 members of the "Fab 5," plus UK legend Ralph Beard and Joe Holland, both of whom also signed a second time on the inside. Names include Alex Groza, Ralph Beard (x2), Wallace "Wah Wah" Jones, Kenny Rollins, Joe Holland (x2), and Cliff Barker. This item will include a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
