Uber Rare 1988 Russian vinyl pressing Club Sandwich edition
Here is a spectacular original 1988 Melodiya (Russian) vinyl pressing of Paul McCartney’s ‘Choba B CCCP’ album, aka, ‘The Russian Album,’ signed beautifully on the front cover by McCartney in black felt tip. This is the rare Club Sandwich edition purchased in limited quantity as a Russian import directly from the record label Melodiya in early 1989, for mail-order purchase exclusively by members of McCartney’s fan club, aka, the Official Wings Fun Club. In October 1988, McCartney originally released The Russian Album in limited quantities available exclusively in the Soviet Union. McCartney intended the album as a present for Soviet fans who were generally unable to obtain his legitimate recordings. Before its eventual worldwide release October 1991, the only way one could obtain The Russian Album was through McCartney’s fan club. The album comes with a letter of provenance that states, ‘this is to confirm that the CHOBA B CCCP LP, illustrated below, was signed by Paul McCartney in November 1997 outside the MPL offices.’ Choba B CCCP is Russian for ‘Back in the USSR’, reminiscent of the famous Lennon-McCartney song from the Beatles’ 1968 White Album. The cover illustration shows an image of McCartney bathed in a red five-pointed star, symbolizing the USSR. The photograph of McCartney was taken by his wife Linda and was first featured inside the gatefold cover of the Ram album in 1971. Included is the Club Sandwich Special Newsletter No.51 Spring 1989 as originally issued with the album. The vinyl record is the original 1988 USSR first pressing with (red) label variation 2 and the 13-song pressing. An uncommon Fan Club issue of this rare album, signed beautifully by McCartney.
Comes with a Letter of Provenance along with Letters of Authenticity from James Spence Authentication (JSA) and Tracks Limited (UK).
