American man (born 1955) who attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan on March 30, 1981, with the hope of seeking fame in order to impress actress Jodie Foster. This one page, 8.5" x 10.75", handwritten letter is addressed from St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington, D.C. to Rolling Stone magazine: "I've followed the debate in your magazine concerning gun control and I wish to make this contribution. I give you permission to publish the enclosed article." In fine condition, with paper loss to the top. Accompanied by the original hand-addressed mailing envelope, and by a TLS from Robert Rogers of NBC News, dated November 11, 1982, asking Hinckley if he'd like to be part of an interview for a 'White Paper' report on psychiatry and the law. Also included is a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
