On May 29 1925 the New York Yankees purchased future starter Mark Koenig from the minor league club St. Paul Saints in exchange for Fred Hofmann, Oscar Roettger & $50,000, A hefty sum for a rookie at that time. Koenig would most famously anchor the two hole in the famed Murder's Row, with Earle Combs batting in front of him at leadoff and Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Bob Meusel and Tony Lazzeri batting behind him. Offered here is the check that started it all for Koenig in this May 29th, 1925 Jacob Ruppert & Ed Barrow dual signed $15,000 NY Yankees check paid to the order of JH Farrill of the St. Paul Saints. The reverse reads "Payment to St. Paul Club due June 1st on deal for release of player Koenig, 15,000." Overall in fine condition with minor handling wear. A true piece of Murder's Row history!
