Rare signed document, one page both sides, 8.5" x 13", dated March 22, 1919. Acting on behalf of Henry Ford and Son, Inc., Ford files a patent application with the government of Peru. Though the document does not specify the subject of the patent, one can assume given the date of the document's drafting that it would certainly relate to the then newly available automobile. Nicely signed in full along the front on the "inventor" line in black fountain pen ink ("9"), with the back page bearing the signature and added documentation from a notary who witnessed Ford's signing of the document.

The association of this document with the Henry Ford and Son Company is pivotal in Ford's career. Having turned over the reigns to Ford Motor Company to his son, Edsel, in December of 1918, Ford started the Henry Ford and Son company and hired away his finest employees to the new venture. Ford created the company with a singular intent: to discourage Ford investors and to drive them to sell their shares in the company so that he could regain control of Ford Motor Company again. The ploy worked, and investors dumped their Ford stock, allowing Henry Ford to become majority shareholder once again. As for Henry Ford and Son, Inc., the company eventually morphed into a division of Ford Motor Company.

The document itself exhibits uniform toning and some minor paper chipping along the edges, none of which detracts from the overall fine appearance. A choice document from the critical period in Ford's career and the history of the Ford Motor Company! Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
