A Proud Jackie Kennedy Proclaims She’s "In New York awaiting birth of a baby": Caroline

One page handwritten letter, undated, signed by Jacqueline Kennedy (1929-1994), wife of John F. Kennedy and former First Lady of the United States. In her letter, Kennedy responds to a friend as she joyfully awaits the birth of a child (Caroline). In full: "Dear Mrs. Kawnes, I just received your letter - in New York where I am awaiting the birth of a baby any day now - I'm sorry to have answered you too late - + also sorry I wasn't able to be a judge. Thank you so much for asking me. Sincerely, Jacqueline Kennedy." Both the text and signature have been scripted in blue ink and grade "9/10." Although the letter is undated, based upon the content it had to have been written in 1957. The baby she was expecting here was her daughter Caroline, who was born on November 27, 1957, at Cornell Medical Center in New York City. Caroline was the only child of Jacqueline's that was born in New York City. The letter measures 6” x 7.5” inches and displays a horizontal fold, tape residue along the top border, and a few tiny corner creases. In Very Good to Excellent condition. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from James Spence Authentication (JSA).
