Presented here is a 1935 Hawaiian $1 Silver Certificate. It was signed by Ernie Pyle, an American journalist who wrote as a roving correspondent for the Scibbs Howard newspaper chain from 1935 until his death in combat on a Pacific island during World War II. He won the Pulitzer Prize in 1944.  The Hawaii bills were only started in July of 1942 when the US Government had all people of Hawaii turn in their US legal tender to the banks, who then incinerated them at the sugar cane factories.  These silver certificates were issued and stamped "Hawaii" in 2 places on the front, and very prominently on the back with the idea that if Japan were to succeed in taking over Hawaii, any money they captured would instantly be deemed useless by the government.  Pyle was among the few American civilians killed during the war to be awarded the Purple Heart.  We guarantee this lot to pass PSA/DNA or JSA authentication, and full certification can be arranged for an additional fee (please contact us for further details).
