Complete April 26th, 1965 8.25 x 11" Sports Illustrated Magazine featuring boxing legend Liston in art cover by Frank Mullins. A professional boxer known for his toughness, punching power and intimidating appearance, Liston became World Heavyweight Champion in 1962 by knocking out Floyd Patterson in the first round. Liston failed to live up to his fearsome reputation in an unsuccessful defense of the title against Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali). His mysterious early death in 1970 has only added to his legend. Magazine has some lt. handling wear w/pinch creases to spine. Remnants of original mailing label present, though not legible and blends well w/bkg. VF. Liston has signed in black ink below "Heavyweight Challenger Sonny Liston" story title. Bold, clear signature on a white bkg. Signature area remains Exc.
