Joe Louis Write Up: 1970's Joe Louis Presentational Heavyweight
Championship Belt. He's ranked number one on The Ring magazine's
list of the hundred greatest punchers in boxing history and could quite
reasonably be considered the top Heavyweight Champion in history
as well, having reigned a dozen years during an era when boxers
fought often, and never dodged top contenders. The specifics of the
presentation of this gorgeous artifact have been lost to history, but
this is a one-of-a-kind relic, presented to Louis--that much we know
for sure. An image of him appears on a circular medallion at the center
of the design, framed by engraved text reading, "Joe Louis 'The Brown
Bomber,' Great Heavyweight Champion Held Title Twelve Years 1937-
1949." Construction is gold-colored metal (brass?) on red, white and
blue leather. Minor handling wear offers little distraction.
