"The Gold Codes," many movies have glorified the importance of these nuclear-weapon codes, but the U.S.A was never closer to opening that famed briefcase than when John F. Kennedy was in office. On April 24th 1963, President Kennedy would take an emergency trip back to Washington D.C. to address another "Red Scare" involving the Chinese & Russian nations. Never leaving the Presidents side during this crucial time, the joint chiefs can be seen with the President as he stepped off Air-Force-One to address the nation later that day. Making this photo even more intriguing, is the fact that JFK is wearing a hat. To most of us, this would be a typical occasion, but for Kennedy this was political suicide. JFK would refuse to wear a hat/fedora in public as almost every prior President had for one simple reason, it didn't fit into his "New Frontier" image. Some publications go as far as naming JFK as "The Man Who Killed The Hat." Given the rarity of this image, along with the importance of the date & content, this signed 8" x 10" photo is much more than that. Signed in black steel-tip, “For Alex Rose with best regards from his friend, John F. Kennedy.” Overall in fine condition, with a few scattered minor surface impressions and an old tape remnant along top edge of reverse. We guarantee this lot to pass PSA/DNA or JSA authentication, and full certification can be arranged for an additional fee (please contact us for further details).
