Hand written & signed legal letter at the conclusion “Coukling & Lincoln,” one page, 6" x 7", undated. Legal brief for a case between William Nutshell and Daniel Newcomb. In full: “In assumpsit, On the fair offer, don't come and defend the wrong and injury when, where.. and says plaintiff actio now, because he says he did not undertake and promise in manner and from as the said plaintiff in his said declaration have alleged; and of this he puts himself upon the country." Document is also notated at the bottom in another hand, “And the plaintiff doth the like. Davis for pltff.” A couple small separations along central horizontal fold, a bit of light toning, and rough vertical edges, otherwise fine condition. This highly desirable piece from the future president’s famous days as a prairie lawyer, has been professionally framed & matted to an overall size of 16" x 24" with pre-printed modern era photographic print of Lincoln.
