Outstanding letter, dated June 27, 1896, 2 pages, handwritten letter to a friend in which Corbett mentions his upcoming fight with World Heavyweight Champion Bob Fitzsimmons. In referring to his upcoming World Heavyweight bout against Bob Fitzsimmons in 1897 to regain the title he had retired from in 1895, Corbett tells his friend "I am feeling so great and hope to beat Fitz - in a walk". On St. Patrick's day in 1897, reigning Champion Bob Fitzsimmons downed Corbett in 14 rounds when the challenger could not regain his feet before a count of 10. Interesting to note that this fight, in Carson City Nevada, was actually filmed and later shown to the public. At over 100 minutes it was the longest boxing match ever filmed up until that time. Portions of that historic fight film survive to this day. Corbett's hand written black ink letter and signature rate a very nice “8-9”. Two page letter on Virginia Hotel, Chicago stationary is in great condition. Both pages are affixed to a matte and framed to a size of 11 3/4" by 15". Outstanding piece of early Heavyweight Boxing history. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
