The patent, signed on vellum, is issued to Seba and Caleb Howard, two brothers from Massachusetts. Seba was a farmer and worked to make an improvement on the Lath. The front page of the Patent featured a beautiful black ink signature from President Jackson. Ink is incredibly strong and the condition of the document overall is Near Mint with crisp edges, traditional folding with no fold separation on the patent. Seal on the patent is also in excellent condition. Document measures approximately 10” x 14”. Certainly a document to rival any existing Jackson signed patent for condition. Additional documentation includes two military promotions for Seba Howard(named above on patent) from the commonwealth of Massachusetts, one in 1824 promoted to Major of the third regiment of Infantry in the 1st Brigade and 5th division, signed by Mass. Governor William Eustis (Secretary of War during War of 1812 under James Madison) and Sec. of Commonwealth Edward D Bangs. The second document is a prior promotion to Captain in 1819 signed by Mass. Governor John Brooks and Alden Bradford, Harvard grad and 5th secretary of Commonwealth of Massachusetts, as well as author of "History of Massachusetts." The third document is a certificate of donation of $1 by a Mr. Lincoln "for the soldiers who leave Boston under the requisition of the President of the United States." Please note that the second document that includes John Brooks' signature has complete fold separation and is in 2, nearly 3, pieces. The Eustis signed promotion has light fold separation, a few pinholes(not in corners) and a fair amount of light colored foxing. One would be hard pressed to find a finer example of a Jackson patent. Do not miss out on this opportunity to own fine examples of American and Massachusetts history! Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
