Black & white photo of Ty sliding into third base past A's infielder Frank Baker, with Cobb himself writing the story of the controversial play on the back of the photo. The story reads: "The 'terrible' Baker spiking play, have always resented the unfair accusation one Horace Fogel wrote the story, play was in Detroit, he wanted to arouse the fans I suppose and improve gate in Phila, he did at my expense. Note Baker is in line and on the offensive, I am well inside and away from bag toward home plate, Baker never lost an innings play was only knicked on forearm and most important my foot is over and past him arm trying to tag bag and his arm is not even knocked aside." This is a very rare piece of memorabilia of one of the greatest stories in baseball by one of the greatest players ever. We guarantee this piece to pass JSA authentication and can arrange to do so for an additional fee. Please email contactus@iconicauctions.com for more information.
