One of the most idolized sports heroes of the 1920s, Bobby Jones did much to popularize the game of golf in the United States. He won the U.S. Open four times (in 1923, 1926, 1929, and 1930), and he also won the U.S. Amateur five times (in 1924, 1925, 1927, 1928, and 1930). His 1930 Grand Slam, where he won the four Open and Amateur tournaments in both America and England, has never been duplicated. Yet, his helping to popularize golf by the example of his personal performance was not the star's only interest: Jones was an attorney and, as attested to by this missive, he was also an entrepreneur. This typed letter from Bobby Jones was sent to Mr. Rufus Brown on February 17, 1942. The letter has been typed on Jones, Power, Williams & Dorsey letterhead and reads in full: "Dear Rufus: - I acknowledge yours of February 12th. - It seems to me that you are working things around all right and that you should be able to come through in good shape. - I have been looking around a little bit trying to find some sort of drink we could sell that didn't require sugar. Apparently the canned orange juice isn't so good. I have heard of an orange drink bottled in Michigan which uses honey for sweetening. I am asking Bill Felton to find out about it for me. I haven't really much hope that it will mean anything, but I thought it could do no harm to investigate. - With best regards, - Sincerely, Robt. T. Jones, Jr." Jones has signed in black fountain pen at the letter's conclusion; his flowing "Bob Jones" scripting projects "10" strength and clarity. The 8-1/2" x 11" sheet bears routine folding lines and a light impression from a paper clip near the top left corner. In overall fine condition. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
