Presented here is simply the finest Satchel Paige single signed baseball (and one of the only!) that we have ever handled. The gorgeous black ink signature of the incomparable Leroy Robert Paige, known by all as "Satchel," graces the sweet spot of this near-white OAL (MacPhail) ball. Paige's signature has been boldly penned ("9") and beautifully commands the ball's premier panel. Only minimal areas of very faint, age-induced toning are present. The overall condition and sweet spot presentation of Paige’s autograph (he had a penchant for signing the side panel) put this example in an elite class of Paige singles. One of the greatest pitchers in Negro League history, Paige later became the first black pitcher in the American League and helped lead the Cleveland Indians to the 1948 World Championship. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971. Accompanied by full Letter of Authentication from James Spence Authentication (JSA).
