George Washington's contribution to the foundation of the United States of America could not be understated. Something else that can't be understated is the rarity and investment potential of his autograph. With virtually everything bearing his penmanship being absorbed by museums and institutions, Washington's signature has been elevated to the mythical status that it so properly deserves. With that said, we are proud to present this exquisite example of Washington's penmanship along with fellow businessman & former counter-spy John Fitzgerald. During the revolution, Fitzgerald would be trusted by Washington, taking intelligence up and down the east coast as Fitzgerald was considered an expert navigator. Following the War, Washington, Fitzgerald & Gilpin would direct the Powtowmack (Potomac) Company on one of the first Nationally funded projects, contenting newly discovered Washington DC (Port of Alexandria) and the State of Virginia to the Ohio River so newly acquired land grant recipients could travel back & forth with ease from the new city & Ohio. This 2.5" x 3.5" document clipping has been signed by all three influential men "G. Washington", "John Fitzgerald" & "George Gilpin" in bold black fountain ink. While the plans were in place early on, it wouldn't be until 1831-1924 when Washington's vision was eventually realized with completion of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal. A tremendous part of history pairing Washington and one of his most trusted & loyal friends, John Fitzgerald. Overall in fine condition with intersecting folds. Authenticated & encapsulated by PSA/DNA.
