December 1849 unique note hand written & signed by Charles Dickens in striking black steel tip. The note is written in third person in a funny manner to a Miss Doyle that Dickens sadly was unable to accompany to dinner. Reads in full, " Mr. Charles Dickens regrets exceedingly that he is engaged tomorrow, or he would have had the greatest pleasure in dining with Miss Boyle." Coming at a time that Dickens was separated from his long wife Catherine Hogarth, this note serves to an interesting time in the writers career. Overall in fine condition with the two segments affixed to a larger backing. Authenticated & encapsulated by PSA/DNA.
