During the years of 1910-1919 the Mexican/American border was all but set and stable. With hostility between the Mexican government, California, Arizona, Texas and what would become New Mexico. It wasn't until 1912 that New Mexico was official considered a State, but that didn't stop Texas Governor Oscar Branch Colquitt from asking questions regarding the new "borders." Offered here is an extraordinary 1911 White House letter from President William H. Taft to Governor Colquitt regarding the new borders and the Texan's concerns/confusions with the lines. Colquitt was a border enforcer during the time, sending the Texas Rangers twice to the border of Mexico to maintain order. The Rangers had some success, but were accused of mistreating peaceful Mexican-American citizens. This resulted in Federal troops eventually arriving to relive the Rangers, a motion made by Taft to help the stability of the area. While this letter doesn't outline the exact issues of the borders, it's easy to foreshadow what was to come during the rest of the Border War of 1910-1919. Overall in fine condition with a horizontal fold. Authenticated by PSA/DNA with a full letter of authenticity.
