Cassius "Muhammad Ali" Clay was first directed toward boxing by a police officer/boxing coach who encountered the 12-year-old fuming over a thief's having taken his bicycle. He told the officer he was going to "whup" the thief, and he was told he had better learn how to box first. He first started working with trainer Fred Stoner, who Ali himself credited with giving him the "real training" and molding his "style...stamina and...system". He made his amateur boxing debut in 1954 and ended his amateur career with 100 wins and five losses. Offered here is an 8" x 10" photograph of a teenaged Ali in his training gear, signed by the GOAT in blue ballpoint pen with a vintage autograph. It is worth noting that this is the earliest photograph we have ever offered of Ali. The photo itself is overall in fine condition with minor paper loss to the top left and overall light handlign wear. The autograph is large and flowing, unlike the boxer's later autographs that were impeded due to his Parkinson's. Accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from James Spence Authentication (JSA).
