George Washington & Thomas Jefferson shared an extensive amount of time together during those golden years, helping to provide the backbone of the government we have today. One a simple man, a planter/soldier of no formal education, the other a philosopher, inventor and student at the College of William and Mary. Despite the differences of these two great leaders' upbringings, some of their best works came during their time together in the late 1700's, helping to inspire such staples as The Bill of Rights, The 11th/12th Amendment & of course the Declaration of Independence. This seldom seen offering features the two founding fathers together c.1794 during Washington's term as President & Jefferson's role as Secretary of State. Stunning large and crisp ink signatures, “Go: Washington,” and “Th: Jefferson,” and also countersigned by New York mayor Richard Varick, and Collector of Customs for the Port of New York John Lamb on an ULTRA-RARE full-sized 13" x 15.5" three language ship's pass document. The document was issued to George Bowler, who would be bringing pork, onions & cheese to the small slave island of Sint Eustatius. Signatures are beautifully in nature with both presenting as possibly the finest examples we have ever handled. Overall in good condition given the age with minor staining, surface impressions repairs to minor separations & minor glue ruminates to the reverse from prior backing.
