Following four unquestionably mediocre seasons with the Baltimore Orioles, Jake Arrieta was traded to the Chicago Cubs halfway through the 2013 season. The career resurgence Arrieta subsequently experienced was nothing short of miraculous, as he quickly evolved into and is still considered one of the premier starting pitchers in the game. Following a solid 2014 season in which he placed 9th in Cy Young voting, Arrieta mowed down batters in 2015 to the tune of a stupefying 1.77 ERA and a 22-6 record, landing him his first NL Cy Young Award. This size 48 Chicago Cubs white, pinstriped button-down jersey was worn by Arrieta at Wrigley Field in Chicago, IL on September 16, 2014. Arrieta pitched a gem that day, allowing only one hit and beating the Cincinatti Reds 7-0, earning his first career shut-out. As such, Arrieta has signed the jersey in silver felt tip marker with the appropriate inscription, "9-16-14 First Career Shut Out", making the provenance on this jersey essentially irrefutable. The left chest of the jersey features the CUBS crest logo, while “ARRIETA” and his #49 are stitched on the back in blue-on-red tackle twill. The Cubs Walking Bear patch adorns the left sleeve, while the right sleeve has a Wrigley Field 100 Years 1914-2014 patch. The Majestic Authentic manufacturer’s tag is found on the left front tail, with size 48 indicated, and inside the collar is a swatch tag reading “49 48 ’14 S1.” The jersey shows heavy use with staining and rubbing across the front and back as well as around the neckline. Arrieta has gone onto sign the jersey with the inscription "9/16/14 1st Career Shutout". Authenticated by MLB with their hologram affixed. Also accompanied by a COA from Beckett Authentication Services (BAS) for the autograph.
