Miles Davis’ Legendary Follow-up to “Kind of Blue” – The Only Known Vintage-Signed Example!
Here is a stunning Miles Davis ‘Sketches of Spain’ 1960 Stereo first pressing (CS8271), signed beautifully on the back cover in red ballpoint pen. Davis has executed a textbook vintage signature. The album was signed by Davis around the time of its release for the late Chicago collector, and jazz aficionado, Raffe Simonian, owner of the record store Raffe’s Record Riot.
Sketches of Spain is considered one of Miles Davis’ greatest recordings. Released as the studio follow-up to the legendary Kind of Blue, Sketches has achieved critical acclaim in its own right. After being introduced to a number of Spanish compositions, Davis became obsessed with the melody lines. Never wanting to repeat the past, Davis began work on something entirely different. Collaborating with arranger Gil Evans, Davis delivered a concept album, drawing from the structure and texture of Spanish folk and classical music for inspiration. It was a painstaking process bringing Sketches of Spain together. Whereas Kind of Blue was recorded in just two sessions, Evans and Davis meticulously researched the Sketches of Spain sessions. In the end, the recording took 15 three-hour studio sessions, with a full orchestra, to get it right. The result, is one of Miles Davis’ most enduring and innovative achievements. The album is ranked number 358 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The cover and original Columbia 6-eye label vinyl are in excellent condition.
Authentically signed Miles Davis albums rarely come to market. This is a stunning, vintage-signed example of one of Davis’ finest moments. To date, this is the only vintage-signed example of this classic album that we have seen come to market.
