Nestor Chylak umpired in the American Lague from 1954 to 1978 and is one of the most highly regarded umpires in Major League history. Nestor was a student of the game and "ate and lived umpiring" according to his contemporaries. He umpired 3,857 American League games, three American League Championship Series', and five World Series'. Among some of his most notable games are Sandy Koufax's final game, the final game of the 1966 World Series, and the"Ten Cent Beer Night" in Cleveland in 1974 that led to Cleveland's forfeiture. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999. Quite the career for an umpire! Offered here is the 1955 Bowman #283 card signed by Chylak in blue ballpoint pen. In fine condition.
