Lou Gehrig's two 1934 Goudey cards (#37 and #61) are the most popular Gehrig cards in the hobby. In 1934, Gehrig hit .363 with 49 home runs and 165 RBI, a tremendous but typical season for the legendary slugger. Despite winning the elusive Triple Crown that same season, Gehrig only managed to finish fifth in the MVP voting. The two Gehrig cards provide the foundation to the 1934 Goudey set. This card, the #61, shows Gehrig with his bat from the waise up and is very eye-appealing. Just a few years later, Gehrig would be stricken with ALS. In a showing of class and dignity, Gehrig would give a speech that will never be forgotten on July 4, 1939. A tearful but grateful Gehrig uttered, "Today, I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth." Those words still echo today. This card has been encapsulated and graded PR-FR 1 by the experts at PSA. Don't let the grade fool you, though. The card is desirable in any condition!
