One of the original drafters of the Declaration of Independence, He served as a vice-president, secretary of state, minister of France and of course President Of The United States of America. As President, Jefferson would negotiate the purchase of the Louisiana Territory, support the Lewis & Clark expansion/expedition among issuing this Military appointment during his time in Washington. This one page velum, 14.25" x 16.75" dated April 17, 1802 document appointing an unknown solider to the rank of "First Lieutenant in the First Regiment of Infantry." Boldly signed by Jefferson as president, and countersigned by Henry Dearborn as Secretary of War in steel tip fountain pen. Overall in fine condition, mounted to a vintage cardstock board protecting the integrity of the document with slight lifting (creating a similar effect to a stretched canvas). Authenticated by PSA/DNA with a full letter of authenticity.
