With all eyes upon him in the summer of 1961, it is tempting to think that Roger Maris enjoyed basking in the publicity of his home run record chase. Far from it. Faced with anger from fans wanting Ruth to retain the title, few seemed to be on Maris' side during the chase, and it is well known that he began losing his hair in clumps during the stressful run. However, in the final game of the season, Maris connected for home run number sixty-one, setting the new mark that would stand for another several decades. Adding a single signed Maris ball to a collection is a must, and this OAL (MacPhail) with a greenish-blue 9/10 signature would be a perfect choice. The ball exhibits toning with a couple of minor stains, but the signature really pops off the hide. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
