The first fully signed example of this legendary Hamburg-era photo that we have encountered!
Here is a spectacular and SUPREMELY rare original black and white glossy photograph of The Beatles that has been signed by the group in blue ballpoint pen. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison have added three kiss symbols ‘xxx’ under their respective autographs, while Ringo Starr has added two kiss symbols ‘xx’ under his autograph. George has added the inscription ‘To Christine love from the Beatles’ at the top of the image. The signatures date to mid-1963. This iconic photograph was captured by acclaimed German photographer and artist Astrid Kirchherr, as part of the famous ‘Chair Session’ in Kirchherr’s attic studio in Hamburg, Germany, between 1st and 14th November 1962. Kirchherr was a close friend and key member of The Beatles’ inner circle dating back to their earliest days of performing at the Kaiserkeller bar in Hamburg in 1960. Although Kirchherr shot very few photographs of The Beatles, her early work is considered historically significant and has been exhibited throughout the world. At the time this photograph was taken, The Beatles were in Hamburg to perform their final shows at the Star Club. This would be The Beatles’ penultimate trip to Hamburg with the newly formed lineup including Ringo Starr as drummer. This trip represented the first time Ringo Starr would perform on stage as an official member of The Beatles, outside of the UK. Just weeks earlier, The Beatles had released their debut single ‘Love Me Do.’ This photograph was developed by Kirchherr in limited quantities and used by Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein for the purpose of promoting his fledgling band. Fully signed original glossy photos by The Beatles are quite rare and valuable. This iconic group photo, with direct ties to Astrid Kirchherr and The Beatles’ early days in Hamburg, is exceedingly rare to have signed by all four; even more so to be front signed, as very few examples are known to exist. The photograph measures 16.75cm x 21.5cm (6.6 inches x 8.5 inches). Some light creasing in places. The condition is very good plus. An extraordinary Beatles collectible of the highest magnitude!
