With less than a week till John Lennon's new album, Imagine, recording sessions Lennon would summon former Beatle, George Harrison, to play some tunes for old-times sake. During this jam session, Lennon would ask his former colleague if he'd like to be part of his next production, Harrison accepted and the rest is history. With the album to start recording on June 23rd, 1971 at Ascot Studios on Lennon's Tittenhurst Park Estate in Surrey, Lennon & Harrison would comprise a handful of former musician friends & associates to help mold the sound of what we know today as the Imagine album. While the exact date of that famous jam session cannot be pinpointed, this offering may serve as crucial evidence to the date & actual meeting between the two musical legends. Offered here is a June 16th 1971 signed bank check in black ballpoint "John Lennon" with what is believed to be Paul McCartney's "JPM" initials (Paul's full name is James Paul McCartney) to the lower left portion of the check, & made payable to Ray Sargeaut LTD for a total of sixty five pounds & eleven cents. While it's unclear why Lennon would be signing a Harrisongs LTD check, the timing can only make one assume this check may have been one of the first payments made between the two regarding the historic Imagine album. Harrison would play in five of the ten released songs along with old Beatles-friend George Voormann to play bass. While it's hard to say how successful the Imagine album would have been if Harrison didn't accept John's offering, it's safe to say with him it was an absolute mast-piece. Easily one of the finer Lennon checks we have ever encountered with a rarity exceeding even the highly desirable MacLen Music examples. Overall in fine condition.
