The first New York Yankees captain since Lou Gehrig, backstop Thurman Munson was a key element during the franchise's return to glory in the 1970s. With three Gold Glove honors, a Rookie of the Year award and an MVP laurel on his resume, Munson was at the peak of his brilliant career when he was killed in a plane crash in 1979.

Offered here is a display that is certain to be the centerpiece of any Munson fan’s collection. Measuring approximately 48” in height and 35” in length, this sizable display is highlighted by a one-of-a-kind hand painted acrylic portrait of Munson, accomplished on the back of Yankees Thurman Munson #15 pro model jersey. The artwork is crafted entirely in the hand of renowned sports artist William Zavala, whose works have been featured in numerous magazines, including Sports Illustrated.

Nicely matted along with the hand painted jersey is a choice ballpoint pen signature from Munson, penned on an off-white slip that has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA.

Capping off this impressive display is a complete run on Munson’s Topps cards, from his 1970 rookie issue through his final card in 1979. All cards are well preserved and are in overall NM condition.

Munson fans, take notice!!
