Elaborately displayed, whimsical signed image of “The Georgia Peach” displaying the wide-handed grip that cut the ribbon on the 4,000 Hit Clubhouse was harvested from an old baseball publication, though we believe the classic green ink signature dates from 1947-1950. Cobb is widely considered to be the greatest player of the “Deadball” Era (1900–1920) and perhaps the greatest player of all time. The Baseball Writers Association of America elected Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, Christy Mathewson, and Walter Johnson to the Baseball Hall of Fame in the first-ever balloting on February 2, 1936 giving Cobb 222 out of a possible 226 votes. It should be noted that other inductees each received fewer overall votes than Cobb.

When Cobb passed away on July 17, 1961, the New York Times' headline echoed the conclusions of the majority of fans and baseball writers." Cobb, Hailed as Greatest Player in History, Mourned by Baseball World." Cobb’s batting accomplishments are legendary; a lifetime batting average of .367, 297 triples, 4,191 hits, 12 batting titles (including nine in a row), 23 straight seasons in which he hit over .300, three .400 seasons (topped by a .420 mark in 1911) and 2,245 runs. He held ninety major-league records by the time of his retirement and was among the first players elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936. Photo is 3.5” x 6" in size and in fine condition and is nicely framed to an overall size of 27” x 20.” Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA garnering a Mint 9 Grading.
