The 1961 season would go on to be one of the most exciting in Major League Baseball history. With Mickey Mantle & Roger Maris battling all season in the “Chase for 61” to dethrone Yankee legend & American icon, Babe Ruth. Offered here is not just another Mantle/Maris duel signed baseball, which remain extremely scarce on their own right, but a vintage example dated back to that incredible season that has been so well documented over the years! With a vintage transitional signature between his “boyish” pre 1958 signature and common post 1960’s signature, Mantle graced the sweet spot, and Maris on his typical low side panel location. Appropriately between Mantle/Maris signatures lays the magical number “1961”. The ball remains in good condition, with light shellac over the signatures & date, otherwise even toning with minor scuffs. It should also be noted this ball appears to be an official ball due to the Reach stamping & lace pattern, but a conclusive answer cannot be given due to the stamps fading.
