Remarkable one page typed letter with extraordinary content, dated August 30, 1955, signed by Walt Disney on his personal letterhead. Dated a mere six weeks after the official opening of Disneyland in Anaheim, California, Disney responds to a letter received from a recent visitor to the new theme park. In full:
Dear Mr. Hunt - Your enthusiastic and complimentary letter about DISNEYLAND gave us great pleasure indeed, and I want to thank you for taking the time to express your feelings about what you found there. It is most gratifying to know that the time and effort that went into the planning and building of the Park are appreciated. It was interesting to note that you chose to spend the entire week of your vacation with daily visits to DISNEYLAND and found everything to your liking (except the lumps in the mashed potatoes!). No doubt there will be many such problems to ironed out in the beginning but we hope to correct them as we go along. Also, we expect to go on developing and adding new and interesting things, and so far as we are concerned, this project will never reach an absolute state of completion. For that reason, we hope that you will find your future trips to the Park even better than your first. Again, our sincere thanks for your enthusiasm and interest. Sincerely, Walt Disney .
Disney's signature has been scripted in black fountain pen, grading "8." Disneyland was one of Walt Disney's crowning achievements and today, along with Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, is one of the most popular theme parks in the world. It probably gave Walt Disney great joy in receiving this letter, so much so that he felt obligated to personally respond. The fact that Disneyland is the main subject of this letter and Disney’s insightful and prophetic response makes it one of the most desirable and most intriguing Disney letters we have ever encountered.
The letter, which measures 7” x 10”, displays two normal mailing folds but stands in overall fine condition. Handsomely mounted (by means of photo corners) and framed together with a terrific 11” x 14” color image of The Magic Kingdom along with composite images of Disney from the era in which the letter was written.
