An iconic pair of green sunglasses that was personally owned and worn by John Lennon. The sunglasses are identical to the pair that Lennon wore in the recording of the music video of The Beatles’ song “Penny Lane”, and it’s likely that the sunglasses were used while filming the “Penny Lane” music video. It’s, however, unknown if Lennon used one or two different pairs during the “Penny Lane” music video. The sunglasses have exceptional provenance since they belonged to Allan Williams, who was the original booking agent and the first manager of The Beatles. Williams later gave the sunglasses to his friend Sam Leach who also worked with The Beatles as he was the band’s promoter in 1961 and 1962. Accompanied by a letter of provenance, signed by Sam Leach in 2014, in which he writes about the sunglasses being former property of John Lennon, and that he got them from Allan Williams. Notably, the letter doesn’t mention the “Penny Lane” music video, but upon research, it’s the exact same model that Lennon wore in the “Penny Lane” music video, which The Beatles recorded in 1967 during the legendary Sgt. Pepper era. This is a rare opportunity to bid on an exceptional pair of Lennon-owned sunglasses with incredible provenance.
