Here is a pair of rare trademark ring-worn boots from Hulk Hogan, the larger-than-life athlete whose charisma was chiefly responsible for the rise of professional wrestling in the 1980s. He defined the genre, acted as the sport's most beloved personality and transformed the W.W.F. into a worldwide phenomenon. Hero and master showman, the 6'8", 300-pound athlete regularly astounded fans with awesome displays of strength and agility. (Few can forget "The Main Event" in which an injured Hogan retained his title by lifting and slamming an undefeated 500-pound giant named Andre to the canvas.) Like the man, these laced canary-yellow patent-leather boots are loud, brash and absolutely huge, measuring 19"-high and 15" from heel to toe. The pair was obtained in person by a northern New Jersey police officer following the 1989 W.W.F. "Summer Slam" event at the Brendan Byrne Arena (now called the Izod center and commonly referred to as Meadowlands Arena) on August 28. Hogan fought in a Tag Team Match with Brutus Beefcake for the main event, and won the match in fifteen minutes against Randy Savage and Zeus. The shoes exhibit moderate to heavy wear throughout. The substantial, custom-made boots were designed by legendary ring tailors "The Square Circle" as seen by the stampings inside each boot. Hulk Hogan has signed each shoe "Good Luck, Hulkster" in black marker and the scriptings reflect "7-8" quality. True match-worn items from this halcyon era of pro wrestling are very rarely offered, and these form an awesome display representing the most notable, unforgettable figure in the history of the sport. COAs from PSA/DNA.
