John Gotti was perhaps the last of a passing breed, a larger-than-life mob figure who enjoyed the limelight and celebrity status afforded him by the media. Nicknamed first the "Dapper Don" for his elegant style, and later the "Teflon Don" due to his numerous acquittals, Gotti's name today is as familiar to the American public as that of Al Capone, Lucky Luciano or Bugsy Siegel. After numerous failed attempts to prosecute him, he was finally convicted in 1992 under RICO charges in Brooklyn's federal district court. Sentenced to life in prison without parole, he eventually succumbed to cancer on June 10, 2002. Offered is a 5" x 7" envelope hand-addressed by John Gotti during his incarceration at the United States Medical Center for Federal Prisoners, near the end of his life. The envelope is addressed to the daughter of mobster George DeCicco, longtime Capo in the Gambino crime family and brother of Frank DeCicco, who was killed in a car bomb intended for Gotti himself. Complete with return address, name, and prisoner number "Gotti, #18261-053" in the top left corner. In fine condition with some rubbing to the graphite with which the mobster penned the addresses. Authenticated & encapsulated by Beckett Authentication Services (BAS).
