American artist and inventor (1791–1872) whose development of the telegraph revolutionized communication—and indeed, society as a whole—and represented a crucial step toward such later innovations as the telephone. He is also more commonly known as the Father of Morse Code. Offered here is a rare signature, “Saml F.B. Morse, Pokeepsie,” penned by the famed inventor on an 5” x 1” document clipping.
