Vince Neil’s Famed Early “Single Umlaut” Left-Handed Glove As Worn On The “Shout At The Devil” Album Gatefold Cover, The Infamous Ozzy Tour, Photo Shoots & Official Videos

Motley Crue were on the brink of super-stardom when they released their second album, “Shout At The Devil,” on September 23rd, 1983. In the early Eighties, the Crue were the darlings of the L.A. Sunset Strip. If there's a band that's lived out the “sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll” lifestyle to perfection, it's Motley Crue. Offered here is a one-of-a-kind piece of Motley Crue history! Vince Neil’s PERSONAL CUSTOM-MADE black leather Hatch Accessories brand fingerless glove worn extensively by the legendary frontman for photo-shoots and while performing on stage during Motley Crue’s early rise to fame. The top Velcro wrist strap features custom stitched white leather lettering spelling out "CRUE" with one umlaut over the "U." It is believed that a second umlaut was initially stitched into the glove as indicated by a stitch hole above the left-hand side of the letter “U.” It most likely fell out during the glove’s extensive use. Unlike later gloves that Vince would commission to have made, these earlier gloves demonstrate a more rudimentary handmade look to them.

These were among the earliest gloves that Vince wore with the custom CRUE name stitched in white leather. Vince would wear these gloves extensively during the breakout years of 1982-1984. Most notably, he can be seen wearing them on the iconic “Shout At The Devil” album cover gatefold spread. Additionally, he wore these gloves exclusively while on the “Bark At The Moon” Tour, with specific photo matching of the glove during a January 30th, 1984, performance at Madison Square Garden, NYC.  This was the infamous tour in support of Ozzy Osbourne that was covered at length in the 2001 Motley Crue autobiography, “The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band,” and famously reenacted in the 2019 film adaptation, “The Dirt”.  While on tour with Ozzy, Shout at the Devil quickly went gold, and then platinum, becoming the first record achievement Motley Crue would receive in their career. The glove has also been professionally matched to a January 8th, 1984, Motley Crue photo session at Long View Farm Studios, a music recording studio located in North Brookfield, Massachusetts. This photo shoot took place during the Ozzy tour.

Included is a custom plaque detailing the glove's use: "Vince Neil Owned & Worn Motley Crue Leather Glove. Neil wore this glove on his left hand for every performance, video, and photo shoot from 1982-84. Neil wore this glove for the entire 'Shout At The Devil' tour. He also can be seen wearing it in the 'Looks That Kill' and 'Too Young To Fall In Love' videos." Both songs would appear on their legendary ‘Shout At The Devil’ album.
